The horizontal part also helps make it more broadband in terms of 
SWR. A 30 or 35 foot vertical, whether center or base loaded is going 
to be very narrow. A motor driven loading coil at the base would be a 
good idea. The impedance will also be very low and a good matching 
network is needed.
