[TowerTalk] Rising copper prices lead to rising cable prices

I think there are several reasons for the hike in copper price, none of
which are likely to change much in the near future. One of the biggest
players in the market is China.

A few months ago I purchased a 500 ft roll of 2 gauge tinned bare copper
wire from a local electric supply company. They said they keep a supply
mainly for the power company which uses it for pole grounding. The price
has just about doubled over the past year to $500 per roll.

I tried to order coaxial cable yesterday at the price shown on a vendor's
Web site but was informed that skyrocketing copper prices (82% increase this
year alone was what I heard on the news today) have forced a price rise of
approx. 15%.

So if you're thinking of buying coax, perhaps you shouldn't wait too long;
the price may yet go higher still.
