I own one 1022 and six 1032 TIC rotators, although to be honest last week I
removed the last one in service and all are now in storage. TIC has
excellent customer service, however I have had some quality issues with
their products. I had very good results if I took their motor apart and
carefully reassembled it before using it. One motor I purchased was filled
with metal chips. I also added rubber washers to the shafts to keep water
from dripping on the potentiometer and sealed everything as well as
possible. The biggest problem I had was potentiometer failure, due to
moisture and lightning. I never had the problem you mentioned and it
appears that your potentiometer gear lost contact with the drive gear,
either because it was loose or the bracket moved. There are many different
motor models and some have a side screw that helps push the potentiometer in
place. Ring Rotators are a great idea and you may be able to slightly
re-engineer the product to avoid this problem in the future. K0XG is
also supposed to sell a ring rotator, however there's nothing shown on his
website.

I have given up on TIC rotors... The last one remaining up on my towers has
<once again> had a disparity between pot position and rotor position and
ripped
the matching harness off the beam while a guest operator <who is not
responsible> did not notice the disparity between the beam position versus
the
indicator needle like I would have...This time the coax whipped free,
wrapped
around an element and bent it, costing me money... I am sick and tired of
climbing to 120 feet and hanging upside down whilst I change out the drive
motor and then repair the beam... Never again... The rotor is coming down,
the
pot will be changed out and tested, and the unit put on ebay...
