I don't think on half wave is the real problem point ... you could 
go as much as 20 or 21 feet (5/8 wave on 10 meters).  That's the 
point at which the higher angle lobe begins to predominate. 

At 21' you're barely under 1/4 wave on 30 meters.  40 meters begins 
to suffer but 80 is a real challenge both in terms of matching and 
ground losses due to the Rrad around 5 Ohms (ground losses of 6-10 dB 
without an extensive radial system).

If you're going to do that, look at a central 24' or 33' vertical 
with "open sleeve" coupled radiators for 17, 15, 12, and 10 meters.  
That is probably the better way to solve both the take off angle 
problem and handle the matching for 17-10.
