"Copper prices fell below $6,000 a tonne for the first time in nine months yesterday, under pressure from rising stockpiles and a turn in investor sentiment.

"The red metal has now fallen 32 per cent since peaking at $8,600 a tonne in May.

"Analysts at Standard Bank predicted: "A breach of the psychologically important $6,000 will leave the metal significantly exposed on the downside."
