"Best" is clearly in the eye of the beholder. 

Using the "second best" method, you trim the antenna once and forget
it.

Using the "best" method, you have to buy a tuner and retune it every
time you change bands. Legal limit tuners are not cheap.

Granted, 80 meters is an exception because of the wide bandwidth and I
do use a tuner there, although being able to switch between a couple
of dipoles would work too. On the other bands, the pi-network in my
amp does the job just fine.
