[TowerTalk] 4el Steppir vs. OB-16-3

Yes, you both did the better choice.
Those Optibeams are generally very well constructed,
but those like the OB18-6 would not survive one year at my qth.
There is too much stress on the mechanically paralleled elements at high
gusts.
Would be a good idea to advertise wind survival data of any antenna.

Dave,

This is exactly why I choice to use stacked OB11-3's over anything else in
South Florida.

Great pictures!

I notice that none of the single elements were damaged, though. It was the
multiband elements (secondary band elements supported by a primary
element) that became bent. Obviously the wind loading on those elements was
much higher. It's actually kind of impressive that the other elements
survived the hurricane in good shape.

Curiously enough, that is exactly the reason I have been considering the
OB16-3 and not the OB16-5 for my next antenna. I'm willing to give up the
WARC bands in exchange for better durability in the wind gusts I experience
at this QTH.
