Bracketing gives a longer lever arm and helps prevent the short lever arm of
the base from being levered over by the entire tower height. In effect the
support arm is now much longer, and the bending arm-- the tower above the
pivot point-- is now shorter. So the ratio of lever arm above the pivot
point vs the lever arm below the pivot point has been dramatically improved.
