Jeff.....for what its worth, we cad weld cables on to Ductile Iron water
pipe here for sacraficial anode, and impressed current cathodic protection
systems all the time, and they do not get coated. Sometimes if we've ground
away too much of the mastic on the pipe for a clean surface to weld to, we
may brush it lightly with mastic to stop the rust, but the cad welds do not
get coated or protected....there is no need.
