First I'd like to commend VE7BZ for putting together such a nice and through
page on crimping connectors.

A couple of comments on the process. I don't claim the way I do it is
better, but I prefer it.

I much prefer the 3 blade coax strippers such as the one RFParts sells for
$40 something.
Clip it over the coax, spin it around a couple of times, and pull toward the
end of the coax. That is IF and I emphasize the IF, the tool is adjusted
correctly. Neither type of stripper works nearly as well on rubber jacketed
coax such as the ultraflex which is where I prefer the "That looks about
right" approach. Unfortunately most of us used a lot of coax to develop a
feel for "That looks about right". In either case the stripper is not
essential for making a good crimp. OTOH it can make it a whale of a lot
easier, but YMMV. <:-)) Let's face it, some of us have trouble making
connections even with all the best tools. Me? I have no problems with
connectors and use both the stripper and "That looks about right"
approaches. HOWEVER when it comes to carpentry I can't cut a board in two
and put it back together straight and yes that is with the good tools.

Two things I do differently. I solder the center connector last rather than
before the crimp and when I trim the braid I trim it just short enough to
allow the crimp sleeve to fit flush against the back of the connector with
no braid showing. I have not found dimensions critical when using crimp
connectors. Within reason I find them more forgiving than the solder type.
