Yes Mike
We have a saying in the PA Dutch Country " To soon Old. To Late Smart "
This tragic accident should be a wake up call to all of us who climb. Safety Safety Safety.
I to have had a few close calls. One Failed Gin pole bracket ( lack of attention to the man on the raising equipment) an ( one where the Single lever snap opened on one side of my positioning lanyard by a guy wire as I maneuvered around a TIC ring)
This taught me two lessions. Replace the single lever Safety lanyards with newer style Double lever activation snaps and have precise un mistakable signals for capstan or mule operators.
A Full body Harness is expensive . Get one use it and " and ALL it's Safety features" . use the fall arrest lanyard and have it hooked 100% of the time period. use the two lanyard system for positioning and I still like the WishBone Gorilla hook to take advantage of a harness with the seat function when in position. ( I still have circumference lanyard and the fall laynard hooked up also)
Hopefully this tragedy will jolt a bit of Reality to all who venture off the ground .
