I recently put up a Yaesu 1000 and used the same material I use to waterproof
my outside coax connectors - a 3M #2228 rubber mastic tape. In the Yaesu case
I taped the boot to rotator junction with Scotch 33, reversed the tape after
1.5 turns and wound the tape with the sticky side out over the boot - ending
with a twist of the tape and a double loop of tape at over the cable. I then
covered the entire taped boot with the mastic tape. The mastic turns into a
solid mass of rubber. It sticks both to the rotator and to the cable. By
first taping the boot I can dis-assemble the connection without destroying the
boot. The 3M mastic is available at the big home improvement stores. It is
great stuff. I have pulled apart connectors that have been in the elements
for years - they look like new. It doesn't hurt to cover the mastic with
another layer of Scotch 33 to protect from UV.
