[TowerTalk] Waterproofing Yaesu Connectors

I recently put up a Yaesu 1000 and used the same material I use to waterproof 
my outside coax connectors - a 3M #2228 rubber mastic tape.  In the Yaesu case 
I taped the boot to rotator junction with Scotch 33, reversed the tape after 
1.5 turns and wound the tape with the sticky side out over the boot - ending 
with a twist of the tape and a double loop of tape at over the cable.  I then 
covered the entire taped boot with the mastic tape.  The mastic turns into a 
solid mass of rubber.  It sticks both to the rotator and to the cable.  By 
first taping the boot I can dis-assemble the connection without destroying the 
boot.  The 3M mastic is available at the big home improvement stores.  It is 
great stuff.  I have pulled apart connectors that have been in the elements 
for years - they look like new. It doesn't hurt to cover the mastic with 
another layer of Scotch 33 to protect from UV.
