Agree with you,  have used  that know in  several - hundreds of works-     commercial repeater antennas, mast, brackets,  hard line ,gin poles, etc etc 

But if you have not much experience using it, a fail can be very probable, in a heavy mast with not much experience people using a specific knot will  use my  common sense  like i  use it trying something new,  safety first.

Half-hitches have always worked for me. Masts up to 24 feet and weighing
over 200 lbs.
