Todd,
My Inverted L was much better on DX than my 160 Meter dipole or 160 meter+
loop. I have worked HI and the VP6 last season. I have worked numerous
countries in the Caribbean, Central and South America. I have heard some
Europeans too, but I need to put up a beverage for receiving. I use the DX
Engineering Radial plate and use outdoor Cat 5E for the majority of the
radials about 20 right now with 8 conductors in each. The more radials the
better. All of mine are 1/4 wavelength, but I have read on this reflector
about the debate on length. I used an 80 meter Inverted L several years ago
and worked Europe, Africa, Australia, and Japan. So experiment a bit, good
radials and good results! Hope this helps somewhat. There is lots of good
info here on the reflector. Happy New Year!!

Freddy,
My name is Todd and my call is N4JRZ. I would like to ask how your inverted
L for 160m performs as I am presently installing an inverted L for 80m in a
similar fashion which is suspended about 3-4 feet from the tower.
Although it is for a different band, are there any hints you can give me
about things that you may have learned while installing, adjusting or using
the antenna?
Your thoughts and ideas on this will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Todd
N4JRZ

John,
I had a similar problem with the Yaesu G-450XL controller. I had got an
Ameritron-811H Amp into an Inverted L 3 ft from tower. I fried the
controller. Got a used controller off of e-bay, however I forgot one
evening and fired up the amp and puff.... I bought a MDS Ham Controller
(about 1/2 the price of a Green Heron) and it has a JST connector. I put
multiple chokes and ferrite beads in various locations on the rotor cable,
with three or four turns, Also got some snap-on chokes from Radio Shack with
multiple turns, but still have the RF. I purchased the toroids & beads from
Palomar Engineering. I now simply keep the connector to the controller
unconnected when I'm on topband, it is easier now with the JST connector as
the Yaesu controller had the terminal strip on back. The MDS Ham unit is
more "forgiving" about RF than the Yaesu controller.
Also check out responses to my previous posts here on TT RE: Yaesu G-450XL
RF problems. Hope this helps, and good luck!

Hi all,
Can anyone suggest a toroid and number of turns to choke out 160 meter QRO
from a Yaesu control cable? The RF on the cable's wires is not good for the
control box!
Thanks to all,
-John, N9RF
