I despise cold weather and snow, but any place my wife and I have found
reasonable in the winter is miserable in the summer.

Lordy, it was well below freezing (chill factor of 4 F) when I finished up
my tower installation and I was in my early 60's. OTOH I was only "up
there", 2 or 3 hours. We dress in layers. The most difficult part is
keeping your feet warm. Normally we only worry about pipes freezing for
those low temps. Otherwise throw a *good* sleeping bag on the bed. If it
works outdoors in the winter it'll certainly work for indoors. 4WD is kinda
handy too although we haven't had a real blizzard in years. <:-))

HOWEVER I normally run a 9500 watt generator to power the whole house, but
it's manual switch over. That's whole house not counting air conditioner in
the summer. I'm planning on replacing it with a natural gas powered one of
15 to 20 KW with auto transfer switch and cycling that is much quieter.
