 Try spending a "summer" in Antarctica.  I spent the summer season of
'93/'94 there; I was a C-130 Loadmaster and flew all over the continent.
New Years day '94 it got up to +33F, we had an outdoor BBQ, next day -20F
and back to work.

I promised myself I would not add to this thread but.......
Ask any US service vet (primarily Air Force) who served in KL7, VO2, OX or
TF and you will discover that ME winters are rather wimpy.  I did 15 months
in VO2, -40F was common, when the temp hit 0 we took off our parkas and
played football.
The
upside was most of those frozen spots had MARS stations at US hams disposal
and it was sure nice being rare DX.  There were only 12 hams in all of Zone
2 when I was in VO2, 1967-68.
