Depending where he is - I would recommend the K1FO D505S - very modest and
equal performance to 6M5X, but built a bit better for the northeast. Try
Directivesystems.com

Personally, I think you'd get better performance at lower cost by simply
putting a modest 6m yagi above whatever HF yagi your friend can afford.
For example, the M2 6M5X would give him 5 elements for about $300 new, and
it wouldn't add much strain ( 9 lbs weight and only 2.2 sq ft wind surface
area) to any decent tower or mast. I doubt he'd find any combo antenna that
would compete with that .
