It is important that you determine whether the existing baluns are part
of a matching network or if they are simply common mode chokes. If they
ARE part of a matching network, you should replace them with a new
version of what you took down. If they are NOT part of a matching
network, but simply a common mode choke, you should replace them with a
choke from my Choke Cookbook in

The text about baluns in the above link should also help you understand
and recognize what they're doing in those antennas.
And if they ARE part of a matching network and you replace them with a
new copy of what's there, you should ALSO add one of my chokes, because
it will reduce the receive noise as compared to a lesser balun.
