Hi Dave,

Assuming that you likely don't have a commercial code applicable requiring
conduit, I would direct bury in sand. LMR 1700 has a good grade of PE
outer jacket which is direct bury (note: some LMR's are rated "DB" which is
a bit confusing in that all LMR, if PE jacketed, can be direct buried. The
confusion is that Times DB means ALSO that it has flooding compound below
the outer jacket. The only purpose of the flooding compound is to seal
accidental cuts in the cable. The thought that it also prevents moisture
egress, or temperature inversion issues, is a nice thought, but not germane
given the water proof characteristic of the PE alone (another topic if cable
is in high humidity and major temp inversion climates). So, unless you
think that a family member will be out there with a pick axe, etc looking
for your buried cable, conduit would be overkill....then again, an angry
neighbor ?? HI
Lastly, pulling LMR 1700 through a conduit with connectors already
attached: can be done, lube the inside of the conduit, mainly for the cable
friction, and securely attach your pull line to the cable just after the
connector, allowing no strain on the connector. Obviously the OD size of
the conduit, and wide bends at beginning and ends will dictate the ease or
otherwise of pulling. Proper drain relief at both ends, conduit rising in
the middle. Hope this helps !
