Bob how dare you ask a technical question on this mailing list. Do you not
realize this is a mailing list to run down W9KNI, or advertise picnics, or
basic reading on an ancient airplane radio, or even worse a massive idiotic
critique of an entertainment show on TV.......hihihihihihihihihi

Now for your question I've been using insulated, stranded #14, with some
success. I've yet to be 100% satisfied with the number of turns and am still
cutting/trying. My project was to eliminate the open-wire line coming into
the shack. I've got a 25ft run of coax going to the balun then the open-wire
line. My power level is 200W. I had no confidence in the smaller gauge wire
that is why I'm using #14.

Sorry about the sarcasm but many of the mailing lists I subscribe to have
degenerated in recent months into gossip/blogs and have lost their way.
Best 73......

Subject: [TowerTalk] toroidal BALUNS

I have been reading and gathering information about toroidal BALUNS and I am
wanting to try and experiment making my own 4:1 BALUN
out of something besides coiled up coax hanging from the bottom of my dipole
for a change.

It seems like 22, 24 AWG wire is the way most say to go for low power
(100-200W) and CORES of FT114-43 does this seem correct in
your opinions or is there more to the story?

What diameter OD/ID would you guys recommend?
