Heat causes concrete to explode. That is why no one welds dirrectly on the floor, but uses a brick or wood. Lightning causes lots of heat.

On the subject of lightening grounding... I was out at a guy's tower
today (he has three of them, actually) and I could not discern any form
of grounding at all -- even if the ground rod is buried, I expected to see
a strap running from the metal tower legs to somewhere. But, nothing
at all. There was a ground rod a few feet away, but it was only connected
to the pass through into his shack as if only grounding the coax as it
entered the building. I expected to see something from the tower
base to somewhere...

Is this typical?? //////////// K8JHR ///////////////
