Cool, on the Cool Whip, Joe.
 
I had the same problem with the thrust bolts. I used a 6" piece of  PVC, 
which I split down one side to get it around the mast pipe. I ground some  reliefs 
at the bottom (where it contacts the thrust bearing shelf) to allow  
drainage.
