[TowerTalk] Guying a self-supporter

You should never guy a self-supporting tower UNLESS the mfg says its OK.

I've seen guyed crank-up towers (Triex made a TON for the TV market). 
These towers have mechanical stops that goes in between the sections. 
They hold against the downward force of the guy system.  But, a guyed
crank-up tower is NOT a self supported tower.  The guyed crank-up was
DESIGNED to be guyed.

The self support was designed to be SELF SUPPORTING.  While the cable
and pulley system has reserve designed into them.  Do they have enough
reserve for the expected forces AND the downward force of the guys
system?  Only the engineers know for sure.

If you want a guyed tower, buy a guyed tower.  If you want a self
supporter, buy a self supporter.  If you have NO IDEA what you are
doing, don't do it!  :-)
