It certainly is important, especially for contesting.  Back in FL I  had a 
4 high stack for 20 at 200/150/100/50 which was capable of all four, upper  
two, bottom two or out of phase.  I also had several tribanders at various  
heights, including a lowly Cushcraft A-3 at 40 feet.  One Sunday afternoon  
during WPX, although I couldn't generate a good run on 20 with any  
combination of the massive stack, the A-3 produced an enormous run to the  northeast 
and midwest.  Who would have figured?  
 
Bigger is not always better, but more choices are.
