[TowerTalk] 66-Foot Vertical (overlap of tubing)

I have seen a lot of discussion of "how much" overlap of tubing you need
when putting the sections together.

On my "homebrew" vetical I used 3" because that is what the 80 mtr beam I
used parts from used for the elements. As I mentioned in a previous post I
had three different "failures" before I got enough double wall to keep it up
in the winds I experience at my QTH.

I can say that none of my failures occured because of not enough overlap at
the joints. The failures were all above the joints and because the tubing
was not strong enough for the exposed length.

So, all said and done, I think 3" overlap is enough to provide adequate
strength in the joint.
