I am considering just ripping a full length slot, lengthwise of course, in a couple of
2 or 3 ft pieces of 3 inch, and stuffing one inside and wrapping the other outside
with hose clamps, very snug, pop in a few rivets, and roll.

this wont work? no, i wouldnt try it for a 3 el. full size 40....but a 4 or 5 el 20??

seems lots of older yagis use the boom to mast clamp as a splice point, and these
days, with more modern element spacing configurations, that produces a terribly
unbalanced yagi.

otherwise we'll be looking for tubing thats incrementally smaller or larger than the
3 inch we're working with. harder to find, and 'pricey'......
