[TowerTalk] vertical in pond

More proof that fresh water is more of a insulator than a reflector is found in the very fine article "The 3Y0X Peter 1 Island 160 Meter Beam" by K4DLI and W6XX in the March 2009 QST on page 37.  I know they are talking about a Yagi and not a vertical but that antenna was only a few feet above the fresh water ice.  It worked extremely well because it was using the ground under the very thick ice as a reflector.  I'm not sure but I think I read that the ice is about 70' thick.
