[TowerTalk] crank up tower idea

Maybe this will help someone out here.

I have acquired a LARGE crank up TV tower. (You take it down it's yours
kinda thing, it was a good deal for me and for them.) I'm guessing it'll
hit 75 to 100'.

My plan is to build a frame for it with a pivot point 5 to 7' from the base.
I'll use a winch or hydraulics to raise it up. The base will have two LONG
wings that will wing out to the sides. I'll put trailer jacks or something
stronger so that they can be braced well.

The whole assembly will be able to be slid or rolled up onto an 18 to 20'
car trailer. Once it's up there it'll be chained down.

The front of the car trailer will form one leg of the triangle needed to
make the assembly stable and to provide guy points. I'll use cable or more
likely good rope as guys. There will be eyes welded to the tower sections,
rope will be attached to the eyes and to cleats or something similar at the
bottom.

As much weight can be added to the trailer as a person needs for the height
and wind loads involved. There will be a lot of room within the lower frame
for storage boxes, generators and the like.

I figure that this should pretty easily have an overall foot print of nearly
50' in diameter. If the tower is high enough that guy points 20ish feet out
aren't enough it'll be fairly easy to carry the needed anchors, bricks or
whatever along on the car trailer.

I'd send a picture or a set of plans, but so far this only exists in my
something to build someday where there is enough time and money file....

laters,
marlon
