I do also see the multiple strokes in the daytime too.

I see your point, and I'm not claiming my observations are scientific
or foolproof, but I have seen a distinct difference at the same time
of day.

The storms with those singular strokes, seem to have less active
lightning, as in fewer strokes per minute; but when they happen, they
are sudden and (apparently) VERY brief.

Lightning is fascinating.  It never ceases to amaze.
