You've jarred my memory, what little is left.  I do remember now Dad also 
using lard and possibly kerosene as there was usually a can of it in the 
tractod shed.

AND THANKS for the mention of aluminum as I had tried threading that 
unsuccessfully a few years ago and resorted to drilled hole and bolt.  The 
drill wasn't bery happy either but I did git-er-dun.
