I think you guys are thinking of two different motor drives.  The US  Tower 
( and some Tristao and Tri-EX) MDP-750 is a continous cable for pull up  
and pull down and wraps around a multi grooved pulley system.  The  MDPL-1000 
is a drum with two seperate calble, one for pull up and the other for  pull 
dowm.
I have seen the MDP-750 cable slip if it too loose or too slippery.
