I use plastic sponge abrasive washing up pads and water to clean off
corrosion and guano. I also wear rubber washing up gloves as well, because
the process is messy.......the aluminium will be clean and then when
reassembled, use clear "Waxoyl" (available in the USA from Land Rover
dealerships) to moderately thickly coat the exterior of the reassembled
joint.....you will then have no further problems from corrosion caused by
the ingress of moisture or bird guano finding its way into the telescopic
joints of your yagi elements...... good luck.   73, John. G3JVC.
