[TowerTalk] Want info on tower standoffs for cables

For self supporting guyed towers like Rohn 45G. I use SS standoffs from Tessco. 
They clamp a bracket to the tower leg with a SS hose clamp. Coming off the 
bracket is a piece of SS All-thread. The cable is held vertical by Blocks with 2 
holes thru them split in the center. I put a piece of rubber hose around the 
cable where the Blocks come together. The Blocks are stack-able so you can run 
More than enough cables up the tower.

 See pages 1,2,&3. If you have a crank up there was an earlier post with some 
commercial made stand offs that looked real good. I have not used them, But they

I tried this system of "hanging" the cables through stand-offs. I have a 120ft 
tower and the weight of all those 

cables is quite substantial. I suffered some damage at the top of the tower 
where the cables were terminated,
plus two cables were compromised at the point where they went through the rings 
on the stand-offs. I have now
gone back to fixing the cables to the tower leg.  I wrap a piece of old 
inner-tube around the cables and then use
a WIDE cable tie. I emphasise wide because it is also possible to "cut" the 
outer of some cables with the narrow
ties. It is not necessary to pull them really tight anyway.

  I do admit it is a PITA having to climb the tower to fix them and then climb 
the tower again to take them off, plus
you have to replace the ties!!  Such is life. Does anybody have a better 
idea????

I think that I saw a short article in QST in the past two years about how to 
make coax standoffs for a tower using Schedule 40 "Ts". I think that a "T" 
was fastened at the top of each section of the tower. Then the coax & 
rotator cable was put thru the standoff. When the tower is raised or 
lowered, the coax slides thru the standoff.
    Any idea which issue of QST & page it is in? Up until now I have been 
taping the coax to the tower legs about every five feet when it is raised. 
Then I have to cut the tape off when I lower it.
