OK Boys... thanks for all the inputs.

99% of respondents had a good experience. Some received checks within a week of the claim. Those most successful had an estimate to replace provided by a tower company. It didn't matter whether the tower was attached to the dwelling or stand-alone.  It's worth keeping records of the cost of towers, antennas, coax, rotors, etc. 

Looks like my friend should be OK with his claim as long as he uses a professional estimation company.
