I though that some time ago it was decided that the torque bars
weren't really long enough to give any advantage? Does anyone have the
real scoop from way back when??

I recently extended a Rohn 45 tower and had to move all the guy
points. I got rid of the torque bars mainly because I had VHF antennas
near the guy points and wanted to get rid of all unnecessary metal near
the antennas. I still used the guy brackets for the torque bars. You can
buy Rohn guy brackets that don't have torque bar so that guy wire aren't
attached to just one leg.
