prop pitch, windshield wipers, electric window, jail door latches, and 
antenna rotors all share some interesting properties:

very low duty cycle operation
low rotational speed
durability requirements
not a lot of concern about mechanical efficiency

The combination of high speed DC motor (low torque, but high HP) and 
huge gear ratios are typical in all of these.
