[TowerTalk] IARU Team Stations

This is a well proven method.

I have a very similar setup that I have been using on Field day
for a number of years. I also used four 3/4 inch rods
into dirt for my homebrew tilt base. Instead of using set
screw collars, I simply use 1 inch holes and pound in the rods at
an angle, so that the plate cannot lift up. My tower is aluminum, so I
don't even need a winch. I use a pulley at the top of the derrick to
get a 2:1 mechanical advantage. The derrick is 30 feet
of aluminum tower that I happened to have; probably overkill.

The base takes four 24 inch rods to just keep the base from moving. Quite simple, and uses a basic boat winch to crank it up. An article will be coming out shortly that describes the whole system.
