Hi Dan
How lossy are traps really? I have seen so many diffrent figures on how bad they are or aren't

Triband Yagis also suffer due to losses in their traps as do trapped verticals. A 1/4 wave vertical with a good radial system is hard to beat as a simple DX antenna. There are trapless multiband Yagis from several companies which are quite efficient also.

That brings up another issue I have wondered about. I know that monoband yagis outperform tribanders because they have the proper element spacing, where a tribander is a compromise in terms of element spacing, without optimal spacing for any of the bands it covers.
Does the same hold true for verticals? Will a single band vertical outperform a 20-10 trapped vertical? There is no element spacing to take into account with a vertical.

I have a Gap Titan. It is a compromise multiband antenna. It primary
benefit is low maintenance. It makes contacts for my very casual operating
these days. With work, I can make a contact in a pileup. If I were to
compare it to a single band vertical with a proper ground system, I think I
would lose.
The take off angle is low but it is a low maintenance compromise multiband
antenna. I don't think it is the worst performer, nor the best.

How do the "radialless" verticals, like the R5, R7000, MA5V, Gap ones,
compare in performance to the standard 1/4 wave verticals that are roof
mounted with radials? Does one tend to outperform the other? I am looking
how each performs for DXing and longer haul communications.
