[TowerTalk] Trap losses

John: Traps are small to have minimum wind resistance, weight, and cost. It
would be possible to build more efficient ones but they would probably be
4-6 inches in diameter and somewhat longer. The elements might need to be
stronger.
The present ones are not very good. They have drain holes in the bottom
which allows insects to enter and build nests. It is very common to have
corrosion on the metal screw connections to the elements. The plastic end
caps suffer from sunshine and crack.
I have rebuilt several of them and it is a pain, particularly if the beam
has to be taken down to do the job. There are good multiband yagi designs
from several companies which are very maintenance free because they do not
use traps.
I would get a copy of the Yagi test book from K7LXC and select one.
