The SVA (Single Vertical Phased Array) can equal or exceed the performance of a 4Square Array using only a single 39 foot aluminum mast. The front and back (top) guy wires, supporting the vertical, are driven with the correct amplitude and phase to produce a 3 element Endfire array having more gain than a 4Square array. Only a single highpass network is required to drive the front element (no quadrature network) since the center element is parasitic and the back element is driven at zero degrees. As with a 4Square the front and back phases and amplitudes are reversed to reverse the pattern direction. With 4 top guys, patterns are produed in 4 directions
just like a 4Square.
With a lightweigh 39 foot vertical, hinged at the ground, a single person can raise or lower the array. The SVA has a very small wind load and is guyed with "String Trimmer Line" to wood posts
placed in the proper locations. The SVA technique has application for 160 meters using broadbanded short elements. The full design of the SVA appears on my website www.WA2WVL.com.
