Pardon the Thread
As there a couple of larger hamfests on the calendar in the coming weeks, I
thought it would a good time to alert any and all interested. A HyGain TH11
antenna was stolen from the qth of WB4GLI in Bradenton, Fl recently. This is
about a 2hr drive southwest of Orlando between Sarasota and St. Petersburg
on the west coast of Florida. Of course, that is not to say that any and/or
every TH11 that shows up on the market or at hamfests is the stolen antenna.
But a hamfest might be a good place for someone to sell it that may not be a
ham and/or has no idea what he has, just thinks it is a 'beam antenna' for
example. Also stolen was one section of Rohn 45 tower with a rotor plate
and rotator motor installed. The feeling is that the thief stole the antenna
for the scrap aluminum value as another tribander that was in the proximity,
on the roof of a storage shed was also taken. We all know the epidemic
going around like this, especially popular of course is copper but other
metals can also bring a few bucks and appear to be worth the risk to your
everyday variety dirtbag. However, as the tower section and rotor were also
taken it suggests that just perhaps more than a scrap collector is involved.
If anyone has any ideas about this call Clyde Wiggins, WB4GLI at (941)
746-1257.
