[TowerTalk] KLM 40M3 element droop revisited

I removed the director and examined the center insulator.  The insulator,
designed for up to a 1 ½ inch diameter element,

has a slight upward tilt that will produce the “gull wing” shape someone
mentioned.  Assuming a 1 ½  element and no droop,

the element end will be approximately 21 inches above the boom.

 

With the inserts installed with the thick end toward the center of the
element the natural up tilt is cancelled, making the elements

go straight out, thus excess droop.

 

Thanks for all the comments.  I am going to reverse all the inserts.  The
antenna party is Saturday
hopefully.
