I know this is straying way off-topic, but people should also look into 
the possibility of 20-year solar leases.  These are spreading in 
popularity.  The homeowner's up-front cost is much reduced or 
eliminated, and he pays X dollars a month for 20 years.  with net 
metering, that may be offset to some degrtee depending on the solar 
conditions in your area.
