[TowerTalk] 20 Meter Yagi Suggestions

I had a lot of trouble with the 155 and 105 Hygain antennas. The tips of the elements kept vibrating and breaking off. I put rope in the antenna elements and it looked real funny with the tip broken off and the rope hanging down. I finally switched them out with the 6 element KLMs for 10 and 15 and never had another problem. Never figured out what the problem was. However, I never had a Hygain 20 meter antenna.

I didnt know they still made this antenna Dan! HRO has them for free shipping according to their web site!

I looked at the sites you suggested. I dont need OWA because bandwidth is not an issue for me. I would like to find info for optimizing the SWR at the lower end of the band. Guess I could interpolate the two settings in the manual, and get it down in frequency a bit. (14.075).
The YU7EF site suggests the boom be extended to 49 feet. I dont want to do that.

Thanks for the suggestion!

Jim,, a Hy Gain 205 BAS is very hard to beat right out of the box. And with web sites like YU7EF and G0KSC,, the 205 BA can be optimized even greater.
But overall, the 205 is very good when operated at about 2 wavelengths up a tower. This is where monobanders really perform. Good Luck with your choice..Dan N4GNR
