[TowerTalk] Vertical with 1 radial

Once again I read an article in a ham magazine about a vertical antenna 
with one radial.  Claims gain in the direction of the radial and null 
off the back.  Where is this in reality?

Why spend all that time building verticals with extensive radial systems 
if all  you need to do is put one up with 4 radials and just switch the 
radial in in the direction you are trying to work?  Guess that would be 
the way to go, huh??  73
