While not based on technical analysis, anecdotally, it seems that every  
year at Field Day, antenna elements that went together easily 24 hours 
earlier,  by tear-down time are permanently attached to each other, never to 
separate  again.
 
I would posit that, to ensure no loose elements, merely lend one's antenna  
to your local club for use during Field Day...The elements will never come 
loose  after that.
