[TowerTalk] Erecting tower sections solo

And all that planning is contingent on the weather.   Nothing like planning for an antenna installation a few weeks in advance, coordinating 3 other people, and have it rain the day of.

....
I built my 90 foot Rohn 45G tower solo as well.  Similar to KK9A, I used my wife's SUV, raised each section so it was close to the legs of the previous section.  Sure it was more difficult, but as John said, it's at my leisure and my schedule.  It was done safely, as my wife was home and would (and still does) check on me frequently when I am on the tower.

Exactly.  I  have found that the hardest thing to do on a project like this is to co-ordinate my time with someone else's.  If you are trying to assemble a crew, you have to co-ordinate your time with the others and then co-ordinate their schedules with each other's, sometimes virtually impossible.  It probably goes up in difficulty in proportion at least to the square of the number of helpers; four times as much hassle with two helpers as with one, nine times the hassle with three people, etc.

Here's an incident report of a tower fatality that occurred a few years ago with a professional climber, apparently due to his failure to follow standard safety protocol. He bet his life on the integrity of the structure he was climbing, and lost the bet.
