[TowerTalk] Can´t add egg insulator...

Sorry - I disagree.

Reason, I have a side mounted antenna, whenever it somewhat faces a guy cable, the SWR goes up and performance goes down.
Using non-resonate guy cables is also mentioned within many ARRL handbooks and general RF engineering books.

Using galvanized steel cables is important, verses non-galvanized cable. Future developing corrosion will result in RX noise and TX interference.

Using solid wire is not recommended due eventual fatigue and breakage. A multiple strand of galvanized cable provides flexibility and corrosion prevention.

I have replaced many rusted out guy cable sets over the years on other peoples towers. A rusted cable is a genuine noise generator.

My personal tower utilizes 1/4" and 3/16" EHS galvanized steel cable.

Towers that I install use 1/4" and 3/16" EHS galvanized steel cable and/or Phillystran.

Thank you,
James

 OK,

 I understand 100%.

Anyway, if someone here have experiences with solid steel wire...go ahead.

I saw few mast installed with solid steel wire (1/4") here...they don´t use clamps, they just twist the extra wire over the "live" side of the wire.

Sorry, it is 1/4" ehs... solid = no insulators.

Glad to hear your experience David...by the way, 1/4" solid steel wire is available here...it is cheaper than 1/4" EHS galvanized wire and sometimes
galvanized is not available...David, how do you fix the solid steel wire???...using clamps or any other technic ???...any tips are welcome.

I have "TONS" of egg insulators, maybe if i "switch" to 1/4" solid steel wire I can add egg insulators.

I will solve one problem but i will introduce another...corrosion will attack the solid steel wire faster than galvanized...Imperfect WORLD...hi,
 hi...

Non conductive materials like Philistran or Dacron are NOT AVAILABLE here.

 Thanks,

I have 4 guyed towers with solid steel wires and stacks of yagis for 10m through 40m and everything works just as it should.
