[TowerTalk] Concrete curing time

The 28 day cure references to the design strength of the concrete. Keeping
it wet is good for slabs and other thin pieces of concrete, for a
foundation it doesn't really do much. I have been engineering foundations
for a decade and I've never seen or heard of any contractor keeping the
foundations wet beyond the first couple of hours. Slabs yes, maybe the
first day or so depending on the wind and temp. That 28 days doesn't really
affect when you can start building on the foundation either, I'd wait a day
or two, probably not more than 3. The 28 days only means that the average
compressive strength of the material has to meet the design strength at
that time. Depending on your regulating authority you may or may not have
to have the concrete tested. I've never seen that required on residential
construction.
