I know a thing or two about this subject. 

Running Radioware I made quite a few cables with both N and UHF connectors.

I used Kester Organic core SN63/PB37 1.5mm (.062") and would go through
several 1 pound reels every year.

I found the organic core had less residue. I bought mine from Jensen tools.
